श्रद्धा से दो; बिना श्रद्धा के मत दो। उदारता से दो; विनम्रता से दो; आदर (भय) के साथ दो; समझ के साथ दो।
श्रद्धया देयम् । अश्रद्धयाऽदेयम् । श्रिया देयम् । ह्रिया देयम् । भिया देयम् । संविदा देयम् ।

How to say it: shrad-dha-YAA de-yam, a-shrad-dha-YAA de-yam, shri-YAA de-yam. hri-YAA de-yam, bhi-YAA de-yam, sam-vi-DAA de-yam.
Give with faith; do not give without faith. Give generously; give with modesty; give with respect (awe); give with understanding.
In the Upanishad the teacher sends the graduating student out into life with a set of instructions. Giving is among them. It is a guide to how to share: warmly, humbly, and with understanding of what the other person needs, and never with a price tag or a lecture.
