Bhagavad Gita 2.50

Yoga is skill in action.

योगः कर्मसु कौशलम् ॥

yogah karmasu kausalam ||

Yoga is skill in action.

This half-verse warns against "spiritual bypassing": using prayer or meditation to avoid real pain or real illness. For example, trying to meditate away clinical depression instead of seeing a doctor. This text cuts right through that delusion. True yoga (skillful living) requires grounded, practical action. When you are suffering, "skill" means having the wisdom to swallow a prescribed psychiatric tablet when a clinician indicates you need it. It means forcing yourself to take a morning walk, making a phone call to a therapist when you are drowning, and saying a firm "no" to anyone who tells you that your illness is just a spiritual failure. True spiritual skill embraces real-world medicine and practical recovery.
