Bhagavad Gita 14.5
Sattva, rajas, and tamas — qualities born of material nature (prakriti) — bind the eternal soul to the body, O mighty-armed Arjuna.
सत्त्वं रजस्तम इति गुणाः प्रकृतिसंभवाः ।
निबध्नन्ति महाबाहो देहे देहिनमव्ययम् ॥
sattvam rajas tama iti gunah prakrti-sambhavah |
nibadhnanti maha-baho dehe dehinam avyayam ||
Sattva, rajas, and tamas — qualities born of material nature (prakriti) — bind the eternal soul to the body, O mighty-armed Arjuna.
Clarity, agitation, and heaviness are not moral judgements or personal failures; they are simply temporary states of being. What you eat, how much you sleep, who you spend time with, and physical illness can all shift these states. Trauma and modern psychiatric medicines also affect them. Because the mind and body are deeply connected, you should never use spiritual concepts to avoid getting practical medical help. Do not use a guna (state of mind) as an excuse to refuse a blood test.
